2005 Redvine Series

Our 2005 Redvine consists of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Petite Syrah, and 12% Syrah. The name of this proprietary blend comes from the soil type common to the two vineyards, Heart Arrow and Fairbairn Ranches, set along the upper Russian River watershed in Mendocino County, California.
The Heart Arrow Ranch, located on bench lands north of Ukiah at an elevation of 1700 feet, consists of three clones Cabernet Sauvignon: 7, 15, and 337. Fairbairn Ranch, is located on a river terrace at 600 feet elevation along the southeastern edge of the Sanel Valley, and includes Clone 3 Syrah and Petite Syrah.
Vinification
Both of these ranches are Demeter certified Biodynamic. Each vineyard block is hand-harvested. The grapes are fermented and aged separately and blended prior to bottling. Our 2005 vintage was barrel-aged in select French oak barrels for 14 months.
The Cabernet Sauvignon provided rich flavors of black cherry and plum and important tannin materials that are softened by the addition of Syrah. The Petite Syrah adds ripe black fruits and density, highlighted by all three varietals contribution to the complex aromatic structure.

We source the grapes for these wines from three Demeter certified Biodynamic vineyards, Heart Arrow, Fairbairn and Dark Horse Ranches, each a family-owned, historical vineyard in Mendo’s high bench lands revered for deep sandy clay loam known for producing distinct wines. They are small-batch, handcrafted wines reflecting a farming tradition that harmonizes the subtle forces of nature. Full-bodied, rich, ripe berry flavors exude the agricultural organism, the farm.
