Dark Horse Ranch

Nurtured and farmed by Paul Dolan, a Mendo icon, who believes that winegrowers are nature’s partners.

Biodynamically Farmed

Dark Horse Ranch

Dolan, a fourth generation wine grower, believes that Biodynamic farming methods heal a property while improving and enhancing the overall biological system of the farm, the soil and therefore the plants. As a result, wine lovers can taste the quality of the property in the glass. His vision is to create great environmentally & socially conscious wines from Mendocino and to farm with respect for the land and ecosystem. Dark Horse Ranch, located just east of the Russian River in the foothills north of Hopland, has been a family project and a labor of love to convert 70 acres of grapes into a certified Biodynamic farm dotted with Grenache, Syrah, Zinfandel and Petite Sirah. An earnest student of Rudolf Steiner (the father of the biodynamic movement), Dolan embraces Steiner’s premise that each piece of land has its own unique expression.
