The Magnanimus Wine Group came out of a common awareness of the opportunity to combine progressive, sustainable wine growing and making with the legacy of Mendocino’s eco-friendly traditions. Each of us have been inspired, in awe, and truly empowered by the vineyard quality and inherent green ethos in Mendo.
We recognized that we could honor the Mendo way of life, support innovative farms and participate in the story ourselves by developing a portfolio that celebrates all the shades of “green” winegrowing around the area. Owsley Brown started MWG as we now know it in 2004. Steve Ryan, our winemaker joined us in 2005, along with our consulting enologist Paolo Caciorgna. Josh Metz joined the group in 2007 and jumpstarted our marketing and brand development.
Each of the principals has years of experience working in the green wine business honing their knowledge at Fetzer Bonterra Ranch, Ceago Vinegarden, Patiana Vineyards and other leading biodynamic, sustainable and organic farms. Ultimately, they came together to steer a company dedicated to producing authentic and distinct wines that reflect not only a sense of place, but also the highest standards of quality and environmental stewardship.
