The Nelson Family has farmed grapes in a small valley west of the Russian River for generations. Alluvial gravels and ancient marine sediments are ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon.

Vinification

Gently destemed whole berries are allowed to cold soak. Fermentation occurs slowly with its own natural yeast creating complexity. Slowly warming the resulting wine enhances the mouthfeel and softens youthful tannins. This wine is produced in a fruit forward and accessible style.

This wine is produced from the McDowell and Beckstoffer Vineyards located in the upper Russian River Watershed of Mendocino County, California. Well drained marine sediments and alluvial soils of these two sites are ideally suited for growing Chardonnay.

Vinification

Separate lots were cold fermented with native yeast in stainless steel tanks and aged sur-lie. The younger Beckstoffer vineyard contributes green apple and pear flavors with crisp natural acidity, while the more mature McDowell vineyard adds tropical notes and a creamy, complex mouth feel.

Green Credits

These wines are sustainably farmed. Each of the vineyards is Certified Fish Friendly and is a participant in the Wine Institute Sustainable Winegrowing Program.
